What type of dwelling did you build & why

We are building a 1.5 storey home into the side of a hill in rural Co. Mayo. It is a contemporary design with traditional features such as stone cladding. We also chose an oxide red aluminium roof to blend into nature and also mimic agricultural buildings in the area.

Why did you choose Thermohouse? /key factors helped decision to use Thermohouse Building system

We choose Thermohouse because of how energy efficient the houses are. We considered a number of building methods, including traditional block and also SIPs. However, we felt ICF met all of our needs from an energy point of view, and would be most suitable for the climate in the West of Ireland. We liked the fact that Thermohouse provided the complete solution, including blocks, floors and roof. My brother in law and his wife are also using Thermohouse to build their family home at the same time.

The team at Thermohouse worked well with our local engineer once the design was complete.

Would you recommend Thermohouse/ how has the experience been

We would highly recommend Thermohouse as ICF suppliers. The communication we had with Thermohouse before and throughout the project has been excellent. They are always available to answer any technical questions and have an in-depth user manual which we can share with trades, some of which are working with ICF for the first time.

We were also thankful that Denis from Thermohouse recommended Brian McDonagh as a contractor. Having worked on a number of Thermohouse projects, Brian and his team were able to complete the raft and structure of the house in a relatively short period of time, despite the terrible weather we had this winter. The quality of their work is fantastic!
